“Superfood“As a word summarizes individual foods that are good for your body and can boost it. We introduce you to four that, according to various studies, have particular health benefits.
What is a superfood? “A real superfood provides a very large amount of one or more nutrients, active substances or vital substances and significantly more than the usual foods” (Center of Health). |
4 superfoods can be good for you
At a conference on nutrition in July 2021, researchers presented findings from their studies – on mango, honey, cinnamon and turmeric. Apparently these are true “superfoods”. We have summarized the results for you.
# 1 mango
In a study at San Diego State University, overweight and obese adults ate 166 grams of mango daily for twelve weeks. In the control group, the test participants ate low-fat biscuits (24 grams). A total of 27 people were part of the study.
The study suggests that the mango has the potential to improve certain risk factors for chronic diseases. Both inflammation and fasting glucose levels were reduced in people who ate mango daily.
“These results suggest that consuming mango daily compared to the control snack may improve certain risk factors associated with overweight and obesity and should be considered for future research as it contains unique bioactive compounds.”

# 2 honey
Researchers at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln found that honey contains certain nanoparticles that activate enzymes in the body and thus fight inflammation.
“This discovery opens up a new way of researching honey, a medicinal food that has been used since ancient times,” the researchers said.
Aside from anti-inflammatory enzymes, honey also contains bioactive substances and antioxidants that are healthy, according to EatSmarter. It can also be good for the skin and cure skin diseases such as psoriasis, hemorrhoids and cold sores.
It also says: “Honey can lower the level of LDL cholesterol and increase that of HDL cholesterol, as well as improve blood lipid levels and thus reduce the risk of heart disease or type 2 diabetes. However, diabetics should use honey with caution as it can raise blood sugar levels. “
# 3 cinnamon
According to a study published in 2017 by Victor Babes University in Timisoara (Romania), cinnamon can lower cholesterol levels.
In their study, the researchers collated and analyzed data from 13 studies with a total of around 750 participants. Among other things, they sum up: “The dietary supplement with cinnamon reduced total plasma cholesterol and triglycerides.”
Important: Cinnamon is still controversial and may only be eaten in small quantities. Eating too much can damage the liver. Adults should consume a maximum of two grams (about a dashed teaspoon). Children should only eat a little cinnamon. Cinnamon is not recommended as a dietary supplement for people with diabetes (via Ärzteblatt).
# 4 turmeric
Turmeric is healthy. A study from Texas Tech University shows that adding more herbs and spices to your food can help lower blood pressure.
Numerous studies prove turmeric in particular has a healing effect (via GEO.de):
- Turmeric helps relieve stomach upsets
- Turmeric protects against Alzheimer’s
- Turmeric protects against cancer
- Turmeric regulates the cholesterol level
