As we had informed here at the beginning of the week, the e-commerce platforms of the B2W Digital group, which include American, shoptime and Submarine, had suffered a hacker attack and since Saturday (19) had their services affected. This ended up causing the temporary suspension of the affected sites at the company’s option, to ensure the safety of the platforms and their customers.
This Wednesday morning (23) the Americanas and Submarino sites returned to partial operation, with a notice on the home page to alert its users.
The attack was orchestrated by the hacker group lapse – the same group that carried out attacks on government agencies recently. Although they claimed responsibility for the attack, there was no statement of intent or if there was any damage greater than the falling platforms.
O shoptimewhich was operative before, is now inoperative and with the following warning:
“The company informs that, for security reasons, it has proactively suspended part of the services of the e-commerce environment and works with technical and expert resources to safely normalize it as soon as possible.”
The Americanas website is apparently fully operational, while Submarino shows the following warning:
“We’ll be back gradually, making products and features available progressively, so you can shop with confidence.”
In a statement to the market, the group reported that: “Americanas is gradually and safely re-establishing its e-commerce environments since Wednesday, suspended due to a security incident of which it was a victim between February 19th and 20th. There is no evidence of compromise of the databases. The teams remain mobilized, with all security protocols, and will act for the full resumption in the shortest possible time.“.
Motivated by the fall, until this Tuesday (22) the group had a loss of almost R$ 3.5 billion in market value on Bovespa. The rating agency Fitch stated that “reputational damage is a possibility“, but added that Americanas has strong liquidity and “qthat can withstand possible pressures on its sales”.
