The dispute between TV streaming services will heat up in 2022. During its investor conference held last week, the Amazon claimed to have tripled the number of original movies and series offered on the Amazon Prime service, compared to 2018, as reported by Deadline.

This increase in the catalog was made possible thanks to a investment of approximately 13 billion dollars (about 69 billion reais) in content related to music, movies and series – many of which are produced in-house.

The information was revealed this Friday (04), on account of the Amazon statement that was filed with the United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC – Securities and Exchange).

The value represents a 18% increase in budget when compared to the year 2020. Despite this, the amount is still below the more than $17 billion invested by rival Netflix in 2021, even more so when we consider that Netflix’s operation is more targeted, without covering areas such as sports and music.

Amazon Prime Programming

Powerful content to attract new customers

Amazon’s budget for Prime programming has several right and well-known destinations. One part was used to secure the NFL’s broadcasting rightsthe professional American football league in the United States.

Another great highlight is the new series of The Lord of the Rings, based on the work of JRR Tolkien. The first season has already been filmed in New Zealand and should take fans of the franchise back to the fantasy territories of Middle-earth. The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is scheduled to premiere on September 22. Check out the teaser below:

Amazon Prime will get more expensive

Another recent Amazon ad isn’t the best for consumers: Prime membership will be more expensive. The increase will come first in the United States, but other countries are expected to follow the rise soon.

In fact, one of the reasons cited by the company was the cost of original programming for TV via streaming. However, the Amazon highlights that every aspect of Prime is being improved. CFO Brian Olsavsky also emphasized that the funds should also be used to expand the offer of same-day shipping.
