According to information released last Friday (21), in 2021 the National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel) withdrew more than 3.3 million irregular or pirated products from the market.
Removing the products is part of the Action Plan to Combat Piracy (PACP)an initiative created in 2018 that gave the Agency more power of action to inspect and combat the use of telecommunication equipment that did not go through the Brazilian approval process – something that includes items considered pirated.
The main products seized were those with restricted radiation, such as headphones, Bluetooth speakers, Smart Watches (smart watches), wireless mouse, microphones and also wireless keyboards. These products together corresponded to just over one million units affected by Anatel’s operation.
The second position on the list went to the unapproved battery chargers (951 thousand units). In third place were the famous SmartTV Boxes, with 805 thousand units seized. It is worth remembering that Anatel itself recently warned of the presence of malware in one of the best-selling models in the Brazilian market.
Anatel also stated that 2.9 million of products withdrawn from circulation had not yet reached retail: were in ports, airports and distribution centers of the Post Office and other carriers.
