THE apple seems to be looking for novelties in its already praised photographic set. After the speculation of the camera upgrade of the iPhone 14 (up from 12 MP to 48 MP), now it’s the Cupertino manufacturer’s turn to start testing a periscopic lens to iPhone 15 Pro, smartphone which will be launched in 2023. The information comes from the renowned analyst Jeff Pu.

iPhone 15 Pro with 5x zoom

According to Pu, the apple is testing the camera, which will have a 5x optical zoom, with components from the Chinese Lante Optics. the lens of periscope type has this name inspired by the periscopes of submarines, since the principle of capturing the image is the same. As with the submarine tool, the periscopic lens captures the image through a mirror positioned at 45 degrees. The light is reflected by this mirror, passes through the internal lenses responsible for the optical zoom and finally “hits the sensor”. This kind of lens allows to maintain the quality enlarge the image, unlike the digital zoom.

Jeff Pu also said that the apple will decide on the use of the lenses in the iPhone 15 Pro until May of this year. If you approve the technology, the Lante Optics will have to manufacture more than 100 million lenses for the Cupertino giant. If apple approve the lenses, this will be the second big change in the camera of the iPhones in two years (if you can prove the new 48 MP main lens).

Before that, iPhone 14

Even before Apple launched the iPhone 13, there were rumors about its iPhone 14. Apple will abandon the iPhone mini to make way for the iPhone 14 Max. This new model, with a 6.7-inch screen, was created for the manufacturer to occupy a market share dominated by rival Samsung. It will be between the base iPhone 14 and the Pro. In the information about the 14 Max released by analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, there was already talk of a price of approximately US$ 900 dollars for this model. The Pro and Pro Max lines of the iPhone 14 will get a camera upgrade, jumping from 12 MP to 48 MP.

The iPhones 14 will also be Apple’s first without a SIM card slot. From now on, only iPhones with eSIM. Apple will also sell models with an option of up to 2TB of storage. The new iPhone 14 line is expected to have an OLED display and a “punch hole + pill” front camera, in which the camera will be located in a pill-shaped hole in the screen and the FaceID in the punch hole, abandoning the notch for good. . This technology was already speculated for the iPhone 13 series.
