In March, the Portuguese Space Agency – Portugal Space launched the Zero-G Portugal – Astronaut for One Day contest. Within the scope of the contest, 30 students between the ages of 14 and 18, from primary and secondary education in different Portuguese districts, will be selected to perform a zero-gravity flight.
The deadline for entering the contest ended today, but has been extended until April 25th.
“Zero-G Portugal – Astronaut for a Day” Contest: Find out what to do...
The Portuguese Space Agency – Portugal Space will give students the opportunity to fly and experience microgravity conditions, simulating the sensation that astronauts experience in space. The campaign of parabolic flights, aboard the Airbus A310 of French Novespace, is scheduled for September 2022, departing from a national airport.
Like an astronaut in orbit, Astronauts for a Day will suddenly find that all movements are so easy. From one moment to the next the weight will cease to exist. Walking or carrying weights does not involve any effort, and bodies will feel lighter than a feather, floating in space.
The “Zero-G Portugal – Astronaut for a Day” contest is an initiative of the Portuguese Space Agency that aims to promote space among young people, providing a connection with this sector through parabolic flights that simulate a microgravity environment. .
Participants will undergo a multi-stage selection process, all of an eliminatory nature, inspired by astronaut selection processes. Enrollment can be done on here.
