ASUS Announces Foldable Laptop with 17.3-Inch OLED Screen

ASUS this week announced at CES 2022 what it claims is the world’s first foldable laptop with an OLED display, the ASUS Zenbook 17 Fold OLED. Lenovo even introduced a similar concept during CES 2020, the ThinkPad X1 Fold, but a disadvantage was the screen size (13.3 inches).

Suitable for use as both a laptop and a tablet, the ASUS Zenbook 17 Fold OLED has a 17.3-inch OLED screen with a resolution of 2560 x 1920, a 4:3 aspect ratio and a response time of 0.2ms. Also on the screen, it covers 100% of the DCI-P3 color space, it has certifications PANTONE Validated and DisplayHDR 500 True Black, and emits 70% less blue light.

The company’s new folding notebook comes equipped with Intel Core i7-1250U processor, Intel Iris Xe integrated video, 16GB of LPDDR5 RAM, M.2 NVMe SSD with 1TB of storage capacity (PCI Express 4.0), 75Wh battery with four cells and Soft Keyboard keyboard, which is larger than the one offered by the ThinkPad X1 Fold. The operating system can be Windows 11 Home or Windows 11 Pro.

ASUS folding laptop connectivity options include two Thunderbolt 4 ports with video and power support, 3.5mm headphone jack, Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.2 support. It also features a Windows Hello-compatible 5MP camera, Windows 10 and Windows 11 biometric authentication platform, speakers with Smart Amp technology, built-in microphone, support for Cortana and Alexa voice recognition, and certification US MIL-STD 810H.

As for pre-installed software, Zenbook 17 Fold OLED comes with 1 year of Microsoft 365 Personal, ASUS ScreenXpert 2, which helps user organize open content, ASUS OLED Care and others. ASUS has confirmed that the notebook will be available from Q2 2022, but don’t expect an affordable price. For those who thought this model was too big, a 14-inch one should be released by the end of this year.
