Audi announces a sustainable factory in China that will produce 150,000 electric cars a year

The electric car market is increasingly appealing, as evidenced by the increased interest of the various automotive brands that are investing heavily in this sector.

Audi also recently announced the construction of a new sustainable factory in China, which is expected to be able to produce 150,000 electric cars a year.




Audi builds electric factory in China

The Audi brand, which belongs to the Volkswagen group, announced officially another investment to expand into Chinese territory, in what is one of the biggest electric car markets in the world. As such, the German company then confirmed that it is already starting the construction of a new factory in the Chinese city of Changchun, which should have a capacity to produce a total of 150,000 electric cars per year.

Changchun City is the largest city in Jilin, has a total area of ​​24,734 km² and is considered one of the most dynamic and sought after regions in the automotive sector. According to the information revealed, this factory will only be used to manufacture premium Audi models, such as the A6 e-tron and Q6 e-tron vehicles. The company also adds that this will be the first Chinese factory dedicated only to electric vehicles.

The details show that this is really a sustainable project, as the facilities will have a powerful system of solar panels placed over the entire roof of the factory.

FAW (First Automobile Works) is the partner of the German brand that has been producing Volkswagen cars for the Chinese market since 1988 and will be responsible for managing the infrastructure. According to Helmut Stettner, CEO of Audi FAW Nev "we are combining the best of both worlds. Audi's know-how with more than half a century of automotive history and the experience of our long-term partner FAW in a new ultramodern company with a production site".

According to the statement, Audi will invest around 2.6 billion euros in this project. In all, the facilities will occupy a space of 20 hectares that for the allocation of 20 buildings. In addition, there are also plans for an in-house battery assembly and manufacturing area.

The work is expected to be completed in 2024 and is estimated to be capable of creating at least 3,000 new jobs.
