Imagine the scene: you are traveling to see another country, when, out of nowhere, your GoPro is stolen. Who would be to blame? Any local criminals? Well… the answer is yes and no – simultaneously. The painful offender is a bird of the species of mountain parrotsknown as “Kea“. The situation happened in the Fiordland National Park, New Zealand.

Check out the video recovered by the owners of the equipment:

The traveler who had his camera “captured” was identified as Alex Verheulresident of Dunedin, the second largest city in the country’s south island. While walking with his family, he noticed that the region was home to some peculiar birds. When placing your GoPro outdoors, to try to capture images, the parrot came and flew with his camera. It took more than two minutes of flight.

After trying to anticipate the route the animal took the camera, the son of verheul found the equipment in a rocky environment, conducive to the Kea land. These reports were shared with a local television show known as “Seven Sharp“.

Members of this bird species are curious and not hostile. Due to the risks of extinctionparrots are part of the IUCN Red List (International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources red list of threatened species). The main culprits for this delicate situation are climate change in the region, the destruction of the creatures’ habitat and even hunting. Some scientists are studying the migration of birds to isolated regions, such as mountains.

Fortunately, it was all a scare, and it was still responsible for generating irreplaceable memories for all members of that family. Seeing the arrival of people looking, the parrots fled, leaving the GoPro to be rescued, along with footage shared on the internet. The situation was the subject of jokes around the world.
