Since November 2020, interested parties can Sony’s Buy PS5, with which the Japanese manufacturer has once again turned the entire video game industry upside down. No wonder, since the previous models were already extremely successful, so it is not surprising that the console is still in great demand more than a year after its launch. It is still sold out continuously and is therefore extremely difficult to get hold of. This problem is not going to change anytime soon.
Buying a PS5 remains difficult
If you can now call a PS5 your own, you can count yourself lucky, because the hardware that is in high demand is usually sold out in seconds as soon as new contingents become available.
As Engadget reports, Sony has now announced in a meeting for the past third fiscal quarter that revenue from games has fallen compared to the previous year. It took in $7.09 billion, down from $7.70 billion a year earlier.
During that period, 3.3 million units of the Playstation 5 were sold, meaning that the machine has been sold 17.3 million times to date. For comparison: in the same period since its release, the PS4 has been sold 20.2 million times.
Sony: Shortage of chips problematic
Sony’s CFO Hiroki Totoki stressed that demand for the product remains very high, but that console component suppliers are still unable to meet it.
In plain language: there is still a shortage of microchips, which means that fewer quantities can be produced than is actually necessary. Therefore, Sony has also lowered its sales forecasts for the coming quarter – instead of 14.8 million units, only 11.5 million will probably be shipped. Especially in the first half of 2022, the PS5 will continue to be very difficult to get.
So it will be a while before everyone can actually buy a console in the store. If you can do it one day, you should take a look at the most important settings for your new PS5.
