Elon Musk’s stance on remote work at Tesla is well known. The company’s CEO wants all his employees to be present in the offices and working there at least 40 hours a week.

So, with this idea in mind, he ordered the return of his entire workforce, which turned out to be a mistake. Reports point to chaos at this time, revealing serious problems at Tesla’s facilities.

Elon Musk is against remote work

With many companies slowly returning to face-to-face work or implementing telecommuting policies, Tesla and Elon Musk decided to take a different path. The idea is to have all employees present and occupying the offices.

His idea is so firm that all employees who do not return are immediately fired. These will thus accumulate with those that will be dispensed with in the reduction of entrepreneurial strength that is happening at Tesla.

Interestingly, several sources report that this return was marred by chaos in the Fremont offices. At the company's headquarters there were not enough places for all the employees and the WiFi complaints were many, something that prevented employees from carrying out their tasks.

This happened because the company hired many more people and adjusted its office space during the pandemic. The consequence was a shortage of tables and other resources when they all appeared as requested by Elon Musk.

Too big an increase in staff

Tesla will have doubled its workforce between 2019 and 2021, growing to 99,210 employees. Fremont is home to the company's largest factory, with over 20,000 workers, and many other employees work nearby in the company's offices. The parking lots were also full and spread out to the nearest public transport station.

Elon Musk's company will reduce its workforce by about 10% over the next three months, as the Tesla founder recently revealed. This change will represent a reduction of about 3.5% in the total number of employees in the company.
