CMVM launches public consultation on Artificial Intelligence (AI)

Among the technological developments with the greatest disruptive potential for the organization and functioning of the capital market, Artificial Intelligence (AI) stands out.

In this sense, the Securities Market Commission (CMVM) launched a public consultation on Artificial Intelligence.

The CMVM published today a document reflection and consultation on the potential impacts and applications of AI in the capital market. Specifically, this initiative aims to:

  • deepen the knowledge of the Portuguese market realityseeking to identify the AI ​​tools that are or may be used in the various areas under the supervision of the CMVM;
  • encourage the responsible use of AI in the Portuguese capital market, improving services and instruments available to investors and promoting efficiency gains and new business models;
  • reflect on the main developments in this area nationally and internationally with potential impact on investors and entities under the supervision of the CMVM.

The use of AI tools can encourage the offer of new, more personalized, accessible products and services at a more competitive price, contributing significantly to greater access to the capital market for the benefit of families and companies. Thus, it is important to promote an appropriate and clear legal and regulatory framework that encourages their development and that, at the same time, ensures high standards of investor protection as well as the stability and integrity of the markets.

According to the CMVM website, the reflection document is intended for all capital market stakeholders potentially impacted by the use of AI tools. Interested parties are invited to send their contributions to the CMVM, until July 31, 2022, using the form available. here.
