The COVID-19 pandemic maintains a very high incidence in the country, with an increasing trend, which may contribute to the increase in the circulation of variants with greater transmission potential, estimating that the BA.5 lineage of the Omicron variant is already dominant. in Portugal.

COVID-19: Tests must be prescribed by the NHS
Given the importance of carrying out diagnostic tests to screen for SARS-CoV-2 infection, within the scope of the national testing strategy, for the purpose of referring symptomatic people and early detection of confirmed cases, it is important to guarantee access and carry out Rapid Antigen Tests (TRAg) for professional use, prescribed by the National Health Service (SNS) and financed through a special regime of maximum prices for the purpose of co-participating in carrying out these same TRAgs.
Thus, the Government established an ordinance that defines an exceptional and temporary regime for the reimbursement of Rapid Antigen Tests (TRAg) for professional use prescribed in the National Health Service (SNS)under the terms of the law.
These tests, it can be read in the decree, are “prescribed by the National Health Service (SNS) and financed through a special regime of maximum prices for the purposes of co-participation in carrying out these same TRAgs”. The maximum price for carrying out TRAgs for professional use cannot exceed 10 (ten) euros.
The value of the State's contribution to the realization of TRAgs is 100% of the maximum price fixed for the purposes of reimbursement, under the terms provided for in this ordinance.
This ordinance enters into force on the day following its publication (this Tuesday, May 24) and remains in force until June 30, 2022, without prejudice to its possible extension.
