According to IRS (RF), the tests of COVID-19 performed in laboratories, hospitals and clinics may be deducted from the Income tax this year. The only exception will be for exams carried out in a pharmacy, as they cannot be used for tax deduction.

check the official note:

Tests carried out in a pharmacy, even with an invoice, cannot be deducted. Tests carried out in laboratories, as long as payment is proven, may be deducted from the Income Tax.

Vouchers must be kept by. at least 5 years

The information came at a time when cases of contamination by Covid increased again throughout Brazil, and many health posts are finding it difficult to handle all the tests requested by the population. The person must keep the receipts and invoices of the tests already completed, and pass on the amounts that were invested, including the CNPJ of the places where the tests were carried out.

As was already done in 2021, it will be declared in the Income Tax as “health expenses”, as long as they are within the above parameters. RF recommends, to avoid future inconvenience, that receipts are kept for at least 5 (five) years. On the declaration website, the individual must inform if the expenses are for their own use, or if it was for a dependent.

Valdir Amorimtax consultant at IOBconcluded:

Medical or hospitalization expenses incurred by the taxpayer for their own treatment or that of their dependents are deductible. Expenses with the purchase of medicines and Covid-19 tests carried out in pharmacies are not accepted by the Federal Revenue.

Other types of medical expenses are also deductible from IR, such as: occupational therapists, physiotherapists, psychologists, speech therapists, expenses with laboratory tests, orthopedic devices, orthopedic and/or dental prostheses and hospitals.

All of these options cannot be ignored, as healthcare spending in a time of global pandemic are fundamental, but not everyone knows their rights as citizens.
