One of the most annoying and stressful situations that can occur with our computer is the loss of files or files. Whether accidentally or by mistake, deleting an important file is always extremely inconvenient. Let’s imagine that we have an important work document, or an article from a master’s thesis that we have spent a lot of time and dedication to.
For it to disappear from the computer would be a pretty big problem. Or that family photos from past vacations are mistakenly deleted. Nevertheless, there are tools that will allow you to recover these files deleted, as long as a series of conditions are met. One of these tools is Disk Drill on Windows and Mac. If you want to know more about Disk Drill, I invite you to continue reading. We already started.
What happens when a file is deleted?
When a file is created or copied to the computer’s hard drive, it occupies a series of memory blocks. That is to say, the file is fragmented into these blocks, generally about 4 kilobytes. The operating system then stores information on the exact location of the file on disk in an index table.
Now, a file can be deleted in two ways. The first is sending it to the recycle bin. In this case the file is not really deleted. Conversely, it has just been moved to another directory and the system still has access to it. If you want to recover it, you only have to restore the file, which is nothing more than moving it back to the original location.
The other route of elimination is directly delete the file without sending it to the trash. In this case, what happens is that the first memory block corresponding to the file is modified, indicating to the system that this file is no longer available. What’s more, the first character of the file name is modified. As a result, the system stops indexing the file and you can no longer access it on your own.
But, actually the file has not really been deleted. The information from the deleted file is still in the memory blocks. What has happened is that the system cannot access it. This information will be available until another file is copied or created that occupies these same blocks of memory.
What is Disk Drill?
Disk Drill is a powerful data recovery tool. This tool is available for both Windows and Mac OS operating systems. The program has been developed by the global company expert in solutions for data recovery Cleverfiles.
Disk Drill It has been designed for the recovery of deleted data from HDD, USB removable media and SSD drives. This tool uses the technology Recovery Vault.
Features of Disk Drill on Windows and Mac
In case you have deleted your data by mistake, you can use Disk Drill Basic. This free version of Disk Drill will allow you perform a scan of the device on which you want to recover your data and see if it is still recoverable. Disk Drill Basic does not allow you to recover this data. However, if you install this version before you delete your data, it gives you one or moreData protection option. The latter will allow you to recover the data that is eliminated with Disk Drill Basic for free and without the need to update.
In case you are sure that your data can be recovered, it is time to upgrade to the Pro or Enterprise versions of Disk Drill.
Among the main functions offered by Disk Drill we have the possibility of recover files from damaged disks or partitions that have not been able to mount or have been formatted. Even if a hard drive has crashed, Disk Drill will be able to recover data from it.
The tool has different file scanning options. It is possible to perform quick or deep scans. In this way you can check if there are deleted, corrupted, damaged or lost files. In addition, it also provides scans for different types of files.
Simple scan
Simple scan option only search for files that have been recently deleted and that they are still available in the file system cache. The level of success in the recovery depends on how much activity has been done on the file system and on the system itself.

For example, for FAT32 files, this scanning method produces more results than using HFS + or APFS.
Deep scan
On the other hand, the deep scan it works differently than simple scan. This mechanism scans all storage devices that we have on the computer. This scanning method is done regardless of whether the device has a file system or not.
The deep scan recognizes all parts of deleted files and rebuilds them piece by piece. This is the reason why with this mechanism it is impossible to obtain the file names and their original location.
This algorithm will place all recoverable information in different root folders during the scan. You need to preview the file you want to recover, to verify that it is the one you are looking for and that it is in perfect condition.

Disk Drill file recovery type
Disk Drill is extremely smart and this doesn’t just translate to simple or deep scans. In fact, the tool implements different data recovery mechanisms. These mechanisms depend on the type of device scanned and the file system found.
For this reason, it is advisable to use the universal recovery button “Recover”, Which has the tool for the complete storage unit. It will recognize the best method to recover deleted files, and will provide the best results when recovering files.

Disk Drill Security
According to several tests carried out on the tool, it has been found that it is very safe. By running the software on different systems such as Windows 10, 7 and MacBook Pro, it worked properly without causing damage to the system or hard drives.
What’s more, does not conflict with antivirus that you have installed on your system. This is a great advantage, since it is not necessary to stop malware protection and expose your computer to malicious programs to use it.
However, the tool has a function of Recovery Failure. This function protects the different partitions of disks and the data stored in them against a possible failure. In addition, it makes it easy to recover data in case it is deleted or corrupted.
Disk Drill Technical Requirements
Disk Drill works on operating systems Windows in their versions, 10, 8.1, 8.7, Vista, XP. In addition, it is available for Windows Server 2019/2016/2012/2008, and the MacOS operating system.
As a hardware requirement a processor is recommended Intel or AMD at 1GHz or higher. Are required 128MB RAM minimum, although it is recommended 256 MB RAM for better performance.
The tool occupies a disk space of 138 MB and it brings different language options.
