What happens when a file is deleted?
When a file is created or copied to the computer’s hard drive, it occupies a series of memory blocks. That is to say, the file is fragmented into these blocks, generally about 4 kilobytes. The operating system then stores information on the exact location of the file on disk in an index table.
Now, a file can be deleted in two ways. The first is sending it to the recycle bin. In this case the file is not really deleted. But, actually the file has not really been deleted. The information from the deleted file is still in the memory blocks. What has happened is that the system cannot access it. This information will be available until another file is copied or created that occupies these same blocks of memory.
