Disney+ Documentary More Than Robots will premiere in March at SXSW, see trailer

THE platform of streaming Disney+ announced that the film directed by Gillian Jacobsmore than robots“, an original documentary presented by the Supper Club and Disney+and carried out in partnership with the FIRSTwill debut at the world-renowned SXSW Film Festival (South by Southwest) on March 14. On Friday, March 18, the documentary will enter the streaming service Disney+ exclusively. The platform also released the trailer for more than robots (see below).

More than Robots: the trajectory of students in a robotics competition

more than robots accompanies four teams of teenagers from different countries as they prepare for the FIRST Robotics Competition 2020, carried out with high school teams. The documentary follows teams from Los Angeles, Mexico City, China and Japan as they strive to achieve the goal of taking their robots to the big competitions of the global championships. While they are facing challenges along the way, such as having limited resources in their community or putting everything on hold because of a worldwide pandemic, children remain steadfast in what lies behind the robotics competition, such as self-development and education.

THE FIRST, acronym in English for “For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology”, is an organization that aims to inspire high school students to pursue careers in the technology and engineering industry. To achieve this goal, the FIRST holds robotics competitions for teenagers, like the one that will be shown in the documentary, for children between 7 and 12 years old and other challenges in partnership with LEGO. THE disney is also one of the project’s partners, as well as Qualcomm.

Gillian Jacobs directorial debut

more than robots is directed by Gillian Jacobs, famous for her roles in the series Community and LOVE (this exclusive to rival Netflix), in her debut as a feature-length documentaries director. Supper Club founders Jason Sterman, Brian McGinn and David Gelb are the producers. Michael Garcia and Christine Beebe of Lucasfilmserve as executive producers, with Jacqui Lopez as co-executive producer.
