Dune grosses $400 million at the worldwide box office

With 10 Oscar nominations this year and 11 BAFTA 2022 mentions, Dune hit the mark US$ 400 million at the worldwide box office. The film, released on October 21 of last year, needed only Four months to get to this number.

According to information from deadline, until yesterday (14), the feature produced by Legendary Pictures and distributed by Warner Bros., had grossed around US$ 292.3 million worldwide at the box office, with US$ 107.8 million in US movie theaters alone. It is worth remembering that the film also premiered simultaneously on HBO Max.

Budget of $165 million

Dune first appeared in theaters in 1984, in the hands of director David Lynch, at the time the main character Paul Atreides was played by actor Kyle MacLachlan.

The new science fiction adaptation was directed by Denis Villeneuve and had a budget of $165 million, not counting the advertising budget. The 2021 film is star-studded, with actors Timothée Chalamet (Paul Atreides), Oscar Isaac (Leto Atreides), Dave Bautista (Glossu Rabban), Jason Momoa (Duncan Idaho), Josh Brolin (Gurney Halleck) and Stellan Skarsgård (Baron Vladimir Harkonnen). In addition to actresses Zendaya (Chani) and Rebecca Ferguson (Lady Jessica).

The president of Warner Bros. Pictures Domestic Distribution, Jeff Goldstein revealed: “We couldn’t be more proud of Dune’s tremendous financial and artistic success. We are thrilled that fans of the Frank Herbert story, masterfully brought to life by Denis Villeneuve, will continue to experience this beautifully crafted film on the big screen.”

Still on the film’s success, the president of Warner Bros. Pictures International Distribution, Andrew Cripps also said: “We are incredibly pleased with the longevity of this incredible film in theaters. More than five months after Dune opened, global audiences are still discovering and rediscovering this critically acclaimed blockbuster.”
