For many years, FaceTime, Apple’s video calling feature, was only available to Apple devices. But for a few months it has been possible for people with Windows or Android FaceTime to be able to use. However, not everything is possible and some requirements must be met.
FaceTime for Android: Conditions?
With the new system update iOS 15, which was released in September 2021, Apple also introduced a way to involve Android users in FaceTime calls. The model that Apple has considered for this is as follows:
There is no FaceTime app for people with Android or Windows devices. Creating a video call is also reserved exclusively for Apple devices, with which the group may want to express its exclusivity. But compatibility is also a requirement these days. FaceTime was introduced by Apple in 2011, at which time around 18 percent of the German population was using video and internet telephony. This number continued to rise until 2021 and probably also reached its peak in 2020 due to the pandemic. (via Statista)
Since this type of communication is now much more popular, Apple has now adapted to keep FaceTime alive.
Video call for all operating systems: How it works
A FaceTime video call still requires at least one Apple device. In order for a person with Android to be able to participate, the Apple device must have iOS 15 installed. This update is available for all iPhones starting from the iPhone 6s. If that is the case, nothing stands in the way of the phone call.
If you have an iPhone, iPad, or MacBook, open the FaceTime app. You should now see the option to “Create a link”. Click on the option and give your link a name if necessary. You can then choose who you want to send the link to. This can be done via WhatsApp, iMessage, email and many other services.
For the person with an Android device or Windows on the computer, the process is now even easier. Click the link that was sent to you and you’re on the FaceTime call. The person who sent you the link only has to confirm you and you’re already a normal part of the call. If you have never used the service on your iPhone, you can set up FaceTime first. If you also want to record the call with FaceTime, there are two options.
