According to recent information, the fire in Serra da Estrela has already consumed ten percent of the entire area of the Serra da Estrela Natural Park. The reports of people are distressing and, despite all efforts, there is still no prediction of when the fire can be extinguished, even because it is on several fronts.

Through the European Forest Fire Information System (EFFIS), it is possible to have an idea of the “catastrophe” that involves the lungs of Serra da Estrela.

The Serra da Estrela fire is the largest recorded in our country. In the field there are more than 1500 operators involved, around 470 vehicles and, whenever possible, 8 air assets. The Serra da Estrela fire will have a strong impact on the fauna and flora, as this area was not the "lungs" of Portugal.

Accessing the European Forest Fire Information System (EFFIS), hereit is possible to have an idea of the burn, corresponding to about 10% of the entire Natural Park.

The platform allows you to apply various filters and quickly view active fires in the world. The platform also provides information on the burned area.

It should be remembered that the fire broke out near the town of Garrocho, in the municipality of Covilhã, at 3:00 am on the 6th of August. The flames have already destroyed nearly 10,000 hectares.

Earlier this week, the latest ICNF report, which did not include the fire that broke out on Saturday in Covilhã, indicated a total of 58,354 hectares of burned area as of 31 July.
