The ad already exists on iOS, and now it’s coming too Android phones: If you download an app from the Google Play Store, you can now see the progress of the download on the home screen.

Android phones: This is new

If you have Android 11 and higher, you should notice something new: If you download a new application from the Google Play Store to your Android phone, the app icon will appear in black and white on the home screen. Below that will be a circle showing the charging status. You can also cancel the download directly and don’t have to go to the Google Play Store.

Only one app is downloaded at a time. If you want more than one, they will be displayed as waiting.

According to 9to5Google, this update to the Google Play Store is observed on Android phones running at least Android 11. This applies to both Pixel smartphones and non-Google devices.

When is the update coming?

“There were some reports that more users started seeing the feature about a month ago, but widespread availability only occurred in the last few days,” according to 9to5Google. So it could be that the next time you download an app, you might notice something new on the home screen.

The innovation is particularly useful if you load a large app onto your Android phone. This way you can see the progress directly. On iOS, the status of the download has been displayed for some time.
