The manufacturer AVM has great things to announce. It will be a new one Fritzbox update give. But what does that mean specifically for them Fritzbox router? One thing is clear. The update brings some advantages for the users: inside with it.

Fritzbox update enables anonymous surfing

In the promising update, the Fritz boxes are given an exciting new function. It is a so-called “Virtual Private Network” (VPN access) with which users can surf the Internet anonymously. If this new feature is activated, the Fritzbox router pretends to have a different IP address.

To enable this new feature, the WireGuard software is used in the Fritzbox routers from the time of the update. It is also possible to establish disguised connections to other devices and thus create a separate network between them.

However, there is a catch: the speed of data transfer suffers as a result. It turned out that the download remains the same, but it looks different in the upload: The speed drops from 40 Mbit to 36 Mbit per second.

When is the update coming?

We’ll have to be patient a little longer, because nothing is known about this yet. In addition, there is still no telling whether the update will come for all Fritzbox routers. According to Chip, AVM would first test the new VPN features on the FritzBox 7590 AX model.

It is also important to know that many cyber criminals are likely to see this again as the reason for their attacks. Only recently were the Fritzbox routers threatened by phishing emails again. In the meantime, it is better to read yourself carefully beforehand so that you know what to do in such a situation.
