Garmin reveals Instinct 2 smartwatch, with “unlimited” battery via solar power

Garmin this week announced the launch of its new battery-powered smartwatch with support for solar charging, the Garmin Instinct 2. Smartwatches with this type of technology are not necessarily new to the company, but it promises “unlimited” battery in the new model.

According to Garmin, the new smartwatch has two versions: The 40mm Instinct 2S and the 45mm Instinct 2. These two versions are also available with and without solar charging support. To complicate things a bit more, they also have different sub-versions with different pricing options: standard, camo, tactical, surf and ten. The latter is aimed at professional truck drivers.

The Garmin Instinct 2 smartwatch has a 0.9” screen with a resolution of 176 x 176 on the 45mm model and 0.79” with a resolution of 156 x 156 on the 40mm model. Regarding battery life, the 45mm model promises up to 28 days without solar power and unlimited with solar power in normal use, up to 65 days or unlimited in power saving mode, up to 30 hours without solar power or 48 hours with solar power in GPS mode, up to 70 hours without solar power or up to 370 hours with solar power in Max Battery GPS mode and up to 32 days without solar or unlimited solar power in Expedition GPS mode.

In case of 40mm modelbattery life is up to 21 days without solar power or up to 51 days with solar power in normal use, up to 50 days without solar power or unlimited with solar power in energy saving mode, up to 22 hours without solar power or 28 hours with solar power in GPS mode, up to 54 hours without solar power or 114 hours with solar power in Max Battery GPS mode, and up to 25 days without solar power or 105 days with solar power in Expedition GPS mode.

It is important to note that the battery information running on solar energy applies if the watch wearer is outdoors for at least three hours in sunlight conditions at 50,000 lux.

All versions of Garmin’s Instinct 2 smartwatch are compatible with the Garmin Connect IQ app store and some have specific features. The Tactical version, for example, comes with a Kill Switch, which erases all data on the watch, Stealth mode, compatibility with night vision goggles, and more.

Instinct 2 models also offer the basic features of other smartwatches such as sleep monitoring, fitness monitoring, heart rate monitoring and more. In addition, they also support other features such as Incident Detection, which notifies close relatives in the event of an accident or other type of emergency, and support for the Garmin Pay payment platform on solar-powered models.

According to Garmin, the Instinct 2 smartwatch is available through the company’s online store in the United States with prices starting at $449.99 with solar charging and starting at $349. .99 (R$ 1,837.41) without charging via solar energy.
