Mykonos, cover your ears: In the second episode, the 28 contenders for the title “Germany’s next top model” (always Thursdays, 8:15 p.m. on ProSieben) greet the new location in Greece with a shriek. This time, the selection of women and girls is more diverse than ever before, as Heidi Klum (48) proudly states once again. There is not just one “Curvy Model” but several. In addition, tall, short, plump and older women and a wide variety of skin colors – standard beauty no longer has to be, that much is clear. This is how the unusual mother-daughter duo of Lou-Anne (18) and Mama Martina (50) came about, who applied separately and are now both on the show.
gratitude instead of tears
Lou-Anne doesn’t want to share a room with her mother after all. “My daughter left me,” laughs Martina, who then settles in with the model candidates in her age group. At Heidi’s first run check, mother Martina, who used to work as a model, is immediately convinced.
Heidi not only gives compliments but also criticism. While some are already crying, the 66-year-old Lieselotte is happy about the support from the professional. “I was very happy that she took the time and effort to look at my gossip.” Gratitude instead of tears – that’s probably life experience.
The next day, the shoot presents the young model with the first challenge: the women are supposed to pose while pulling the rope and compete against each other in pairs, lightly dressed, of course. Kim (20) has problems forcing herself to laugh, which Heidi comments with a yawn: “It’s to fall asleep.” The overly cheerful Kristina (21) was also too sure of her cause. “Wow, she’s completely unfocused at work,” says Heidi disappointed. In some teams neither gets a point. “You have a lot to do this season,” photographer Yu Tsai pities the model mom. “Nowadays everyone thinks they can model…” she agrees.
Extreme sport catwalk
Perhaps the most dangerous catwalk in GNTM history follows. It is an uneven, stony outdoor staircase that the wannabe models in dresses with meter-long trains and high heels are supposed to descend as elegantly as possible. Everyone stumbles, many fall, even the jury finds it difficult to watch – extreme sports catwalk.
At least Lieselotte discovers on the shaky catwalk that she can still swing her hips quite well despite a serious accident years ago. “Physiotherapy GNTM!” she exclaims enthusiastically when she arrives in front of the jury. She could hardly believe her luck with the beauty makeover. “Always these tears of joy when someone takes care of me,” she laughs. “I don’t even know if I can hold out for that long, emotionally. Everything is so beautiful here.”
The victory of the day goes to Martina again: She is the only one who elegantly makes it down the steps, which the jury enthusiastically acknowledges. “I just love it. I’ve probably been waiting all these years to be allowed to do it again,” replies the 50-year-old.
For Kim and Wiebke (22), however, the journey is over. But they’re still young – maybe they’ll just try again in 30 or 40 years.
