It has been for years Google Maps the number 1 map service. On Android and iOS, the various functions of the app play into your hands, but due to the large number of them, it is not always easy to keep track of them. You should definitely know one of them. It only needs one of your fingers, but it makes it much easier for you to use the application.
Google Maps: Zoom with just one finger
Like most other map apps and navigation services, Google Maps is usually easiest to use with two fingers. The gesture to zoom in should now be second nature to anyone who has ever owned a smartphone or tablet. But just in case: You put two fingers close together on the display and pull them apart there. Depending on how far you separate them, the strength of the zoom will also be different.
But you don’t necessarily have to use this pinch-to-zoom mechanism, because it’s much easier. If you only have one hand free, it’s not that easy to place two fingers on the touchscreen. In this case, you can easily use the one-finger method. Important: This only works in the app, not in the browser version of Google Maps.
How it works:
- Open the Google Maps app on Android or iOS.
- Place your finger on the display and apply light pressure.
- Now move it down to zoom in.
- If you move it up, you zoom out.
This feature is useful, for example, when you are using your mobile phone for navigation or when your other hand is busy. However, the service also offers many other gimmicks that you should know about. So we show you five Google Maps features that can do much more than just navigate.
