Grey’s Anatomy is entering its 19th season. This was announced by the broadcaster ABC, according to “Entertainment Weekly”. Given the continued success of the doctor series, the extension was actually just a formality. But it is not something that can be taken for granted.

Leading actress Ellen Pompeo (52) only indicated in an interview in December 2021 that she wanted the long-lived series to end soon and with dignity. She indicated that she thinks the hit, which has been running since 2005, has been told. “I feel like I’m super naive if I say, ‘But what’s the story going to be? What story will we tell? And everyone’s like, ‘Who cares, Ellen? It makes tons of money.”

Broadcaster ABC is already thinking about the next few years

Now Ellen Pompeo has apparently been convinced. Like showrunner Krista Vernoff (50), she has signed a new contract. But what does Grey’s Anatomy still have to say after 18 seasons? ABC promises “new, untold stories that continue to focus on modern medicine, that address issues that are shaping the world around us, and that will resonate with loyal fans for years to come.”

So the broadcaster is not only planning the next season, but is already thinking about the next few years. Whether Ellen Pompeo can be satisfied for that long remains to be seen. Season 18 starts in February of this year.
