Don’t expect to watch HBO The last of us series soon. The channel’s president of programming, Casey Bloys, said The Hollywood Reporter on a interview that Naughty Dog’s doomsday games adaptation will not air in 2022. Bloys did not commit to a release date, but noted that filming was still underway in the Canadian city of Calgary.

the stars of the series the Mandalorian and narcos veteran Pedro Pascal as grizzled survivor Joel, while War of Thrones‘ Bella Ramsey plays teenage Ellie. Merle Dandridge from the games plays resistance leader Marlene, while Gabriel Luna (Real detective) and Anna Torv (Fringe) respectively play Joel’s brother Tommy and smuggler Tess. Nick Offerman also has a guest role. The high-profile plot largely mimics that of the first game – Joel is tasked with escorting Ellie to an organization in search of a cure for the brain infection that has ravaged humanity, but the journey becomes much more complicated.

The moment will have HBO The last of us debuts long after the game’s sequel. Expectations are already high, however. In addition to the cast, the show is written and produced by Chernobylby Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann of Naughty Dog. In theory, the series will buck the trend of game adaptations more or less and give Sony’s PlayStation Productions studio some extra credibility.
