In 2019, Meta introduced avatars to Facebook Messenger, and now Instagram has received this feature as well. Through these drawings, the user can create an online persona and edit its appearance, so that it looks as much like itself as possible (or be completely different, it's up to each one).

As with Snapchat, Apple's operating system and Samsung smartphones, users can use these avatars to react to messages, for example, sharing that image with their followers and friends.

Apparently, this new feature of Instagram comes to clarify the goals of Meta for the future of what could become the virtual society. the head of Instagram Adam Mosseri confirmed that these new avatars will play an important role in the virtual world, in the sense that they allow us to visually represent real people.
