Hyundai i20 1.0 T-GDi: Style and simplicity on wheels

Although much is said about electrification, car manufacturers continue to produce good combustion cars, guaranteeing an answer to those who do not want to join the electric wave for now. This new Hyundai i20 is powered by gasoline and promises to spread extra style on the roads.

Pplware couldn’t fail to test it and… yes, it’s a car for everyday use that doesn’t compromise, mainly because of its simplicity and functionality.

Hyundai i20: A city car that will surprise you

Living up to the moment we live in, Hyundai has presented very interesting proposals in the electric segment, but it remains with alternatives with a combustion engine that are also very desirable. The choice may not be clear, so we tested one of the manufacturer's options: the Hyundai i20 1.0 T-GDiwith double painting.

This new model from Hyundai introduces the consumer to the recent concept of Sensuous Sportiness. After all, it is a car that seduces, in addition to fulfilling the brand's word regarding its valences.

From the previous model to this one, Hyundai has increased the wheelbase (2,580 mm), width (1,775 mm) and length (4,040 mm), decreasing only the height (1,450 mm). In this way, it guarantees more interior space and a more robust exterior appearance, which can be completed with a metallic, special metallic or solid paint.

Furthermore, Hyundai equipped this i20 1.0 T-GDi with 17" alloy wheels and 215/45 R17 91V tires.

Comfortable and spacious interior

Once inside the car, the colors of the instrument panel stand out, illustrated by a 10.25-inch Supervision Cluster screen, and an eight-inch touchscreen digital radio with six speakers. Although not very customizable, the graphics are simple and the interface is very responsive.

For the increase granted, Hyundai managed to make the interior of its i20 1.0 T-GDi Style offer more space for occupants, with the rear seat comfortably accommodating two people, with the third being less comfortable.

The trunk of this new Hyundai guarantees a capacity of 352 liters.

It does not come with a spare tire, but is equipped with a tire repair kit.

The technology that can no longer be missed

As accustomed to its customers, Hyundai equipped its i20 1.0 T-GDi Style with some essential technology: the two screens mentioned above and a Bluetooth system. In addition, it ensures, among others:

  • Steering column with manual height and depth adjustment
  • Air conditioning with automatic defrosting
  • Rear seat passenger alert
  • Automatic door lock
  • Rear parking assist camera
  • E-Call
  • Cruise Control
  • Automatic high beam control system
  • Driving mode selection between Sport, Eco and Normal
  • Rain sensor that activates the windshield wipers automatically

As it could not be otherwise, it integrates Apple Carplay and Android Auto.

Some features that might be an extra advantage for some people are the retractable key with remote control, steering wheel controls, USB ports, autonomous emergency braking, and driver fatigue alert.

Some equipment is already transversal to the various segments of Hyundai.


This Hyundai i20 1.0 T-GDi is powered by gasoline and guarantees a displacement of 998 cc and a top speed of 188 km/h. The gearbox is manual and has six speeds, and a DCT automatic gearbox is also available.

It is important to mention that, on average, it has a combined consumption of 5.4 liters per 100km.

There is no doubt that in Portugal, the B segment has been the guarantor of sales leadership in the automotive market for several years. Therefore, this bet by Hyundai meets this substantial demand and the Hyundai i20 is one of the most balanced proposals in this offer. Despite fuel prices having an influence on consumer decision in today's world, this offer, simplicity and durability of equipment, as well as a competitive price, puts the Hyundai i20 side by side with the heavyweights of this segment.

In terms of driving, the driver has in his hands a vehicle with good dynamic behavior, thanks to a "nervous" 1.0 T-GDi engine. Yes, the design is well done, and gives a more "sport" look to the car. Remember that the Hyundai i20 has the sporty driving mode, but it is a little camouflaged, not being an option that is "at hand" and even when using it, the feeling is that the car went from nervous to hyperactive.

All this configures a good price/equipment ratio. It also adds an unbeatable warranty (seven years with no mileage limit). All this counts and are arguments to give the South Korean car trump cards to beat the competition.

There are some less positive points, such as the noise more noticeable on uneven floors, parallel, for example. There could be one or another "pampering" of the brand adding the blind spot sensor, which is so lacking nowadays. But for €18,335, the set is at a very good price.
