THE Instagram published a statement stating that it has altered its algorithm so that “offensive” content (such as bullying, hate speech or violent posts) appears lower on the feed it is us stories (which in this case is further to the side). The disclosure of the change in its algorithm, according to the Instagram, is to be more transparent with the functioning of the social network. Last year, a company document was leaked and showed that the Meta/Facebook was aware of the impact of Instagram in the mental health of adolescent girls.

Instagram will not delete, it will only decrease reach

in the words of Instagram, in addition to removing content that violates community policies, the measure to decrease the reach of postspotentially offensive” is an action to combat posts that contain bullying, hate speech or content that encourages violence. The algorithm will identify the offensive potential of publications based on complaints made by other users. However, reports will only affect publications, leaving the user’s “file” clean with the Instagram.

THE Instagram will only remove posts that violate the rules of the social network. Which is pretty confusing: something can be offensive, hate speech, incite violence and still be accessible, it will only show up further down the feed and in stories. Meanwhile, the facebook/goal will continue to cause problems for women’s intimate health companies for using the term “pelvic floor” (remembering that pelvic floor care is also important for men’s health).

Instagram for kids has been abandoned

Last year, shortly before the document showing the internal research on the impact of Instagram on adolescent mental health, social network announced that it planned to launch a Instagram Kids. The objective was to create a safe space for the public under 13 years old. However, after the research was leaked, the project was postponed indefinitely.
