The social network Instagram went online for the first time in 2010. As part of Meta Platforms (formerly Facebook), the service is very popular today. Its use is currently free, but that could change soon. At least part of the iOS and Android app could then come up with new costs. The brand is currently planning a corresponding test in the USA.
Instagram is planning a new subscription model
The Facebook platform introduced its subscription service back in 2020. It should enable influencers to build sustainable companies with the support of their communities. The company apparently received such positive feedback from them that Meta has now decided to offer a comparable service on Instagram as well. Initially, this should take the form of a test limited to the USA. Later, however, the function could be rolled out worldwide.
“Starting today, we begin testing subscriptions with a handful of authors setting a monthly price of their choice, enabling a ‘subscribe’ button on their profile and their subscribers […] can offer benefits.”

What are the benefits of Instagram Subscriptions?
With “Subscriber Lives“ Influencers can offer their communities exclusive live streams. This should give subscribers the opportunity to participate more actively in what is happening.
With “Subscriber Stories‘ Creators can ‘create stories only for their subscribers,’ writes Instagram’s business team. They would allow them to “share exclusive content and use interactive story stickers only with their most engaged followers.”
“Subscriber Badges‘ seem to serve a similar purpose as they do on other platforms such as Twitch. Content creators see a badge next to comments and messages so they can easily identify their subscribers.
Those Instagram members who take part in the test should be able to charge between one and $100 per subscription from their communities.
