On Tuesday, February 8, Apple announced that the company would release the new feature in the United States as early as spring of this year. When “Tap to Pay” will be available worldwide is not clear at this point. However, it is already clear which iPhones can act as a card reader: All iPhone XS from 2018 and higher.

Cooperation with other service providers

Apple also announced that it would be working with payment service provider Stripe so that customers could try “Tap to Pay” there for the first time. The service then also appears as a payment option in the Shopify point-of-sale app. In the course of the year, cooperation with other payment service providers is also planned, but also the establishment in conventional retail.

The iPhone thus accepts NFC-enabled cards, but also digital purses, so-called wallets. As a checkout terminal, it can accept payments from debit and credit cards and also payments via Apple Pay and Co.
