iPhone SE 3 2022 a cheap 5G phone
Around April 2022, Apple will introduce theiPhone SE 3, a small power plant. It will be the 5G phone the cheapest ever released by the company.
After Apple introduced the iPhone 13 series in September 2021, many fans are eagerly awaiting what is to come. Before the iPhone 14 series is expected, Apple will release another smartphone first: theiPhone SE 2022 – also called iPhone SE 3. He is the successor of theiPhone SE 2020, which, with its 4.7″ LCD screen and an RRP of €490, is known as the cheapest and smallest Apple phone. The 3rd generation is expected in spring 2022.
During the past period, theiPhone SE 2022 made the news several times. Based on all information known so far, Dutch graphic designer Jermaine Smit aka Concept Creator has made a series of product images for LetsGoDigital of the planned budget model. The video below was also created by Jermaine.
iPhone SE 2022
There has been no less than 4 years between the introduction of iPhone SE (2016) and SE 2 (2020). Apple has therefore decided to give the device a completely new design. This time there are only 2 years between the 2nd and 3rd generation. As a result, few design changes should be made.
Most likely, the new model will feature a single camera on the back again. The facade will be characterized by wide screen edges. The top edge of the screen offers space for the selfie camera and receiver, while the bottom edge of the screen houses a physical home button with Touch ID.
The small screen size is retained. The glass back and rounded corners will also remain unchanged. For many, the design will seem rather outdated. But the new budget phone has two other strengths; Super-fast 5G and A15 Bionic support.
5G support and A15 Bionic processor
One of the most important additions for theiPhone SE 2022 will be 5G support. The iPhone 12 series was the first model from Apple that supported 5G mobile internet network. With this range, Apple has managed to achieve particularly good sales results, which also apply to the new iPhone 13 series. The SE 2022 will be Apple’s cheapest 5G phone – cheaper than the ‘mini’ “. This will undoubtedly benefit the popularity of this model.
It’s also expected that Apple won’t release a new “mini” – the iPhone 13 mini is the latest model. Instead, it looks like an iPhone 14 Max is in the works – which will be larger than the base model, but less advanced than the Pro models.
This would mean that theiPhone SE 3 is the only small model Apple will introduce in 2022. A 4.7-inch Retina LCD screen is again chosen – it’s still unclear if the HD resolution will be maintained.
Apple will also integrate a new chipset. This little phone is going to be a real powerhouse. Presumably, the 2022 model is powered by the A15 Bionic which is also used for the iPhone 13 series. This is a huge step up from the A13 Bionic which was used in the previous model.
Besides a faster processor, the storage capacity will probably also be increased. Where the current model has 64GB of memory as standard, Apple seems to be planning to give the iPhone SE 2022 128GB of storage as standard – matching other iPhone models. According to Apple expert Ming-Chi Kuo, 4 GB of RAM will be integrated.
Although the new model will likely feature a 12MP camera again, the new processor will undoubtedly enable a number of new camera functions. Think Night Mode, Deep Fusion, Smart HDR and Photographic Styles – one by one features that can also be found in the iPhone 13.
The new chip will no doubt be more power efficient, but 5G will demand more from the battery. Apple may decide to integrate a slightly larger battery. That would be desirable, as the iPhone SE 2020 isn’t immediately known for its phenomenal battery life. This device has a 1,821 mAh battery – which lasts an average of around 10 hours.
iPhone SE 3 price and availability
The iPhone SE 2020 (64GB) has an MSRP of €490. Maybe the new model will be on the market for the same amount. However, it’s also possible that there will be a slight price increase, due to 5G support – as was the case with the iPhone 12 series at the time.
Apple is expected to release the 2022 iPhone SE in two new colors Starlight and Midnight – both colors debuted back in the days of the iPhone 13 series. These will replace the current white and black model. In addition, the Product RED variant will probably also be part of the party.
Multiple sources report that Apple will schedule a spring event around March/April. The iPhone SE 3 will be presented during this event. A new iPad may also appear. The new phone model is expected to be available from the end of April/May.
Apple isn’t the only manufacturer bringing a relatively cheap 5G phone model to market in the second quarter of 2022. The Google Pixel 6a is expected in late May – along with the Google Pixel Watch – it will be the brand’s first smartwatch, with which Google will come to compete with the successful Apple Watch Series 7.
Google does not seem to have any intention of entering the smartwatch market on its own. It seems very likely that the company is also working on a Google Android tablet. Just like the smartwatch market, the tablet market is also dominated by Apple. Google clearly seems to want to take advantage of this success.
iPhone SE Plus 5G
That doesn’t seem to stay with theiPhone SE 2022, Apple is working on another SE model in the background. According to insiders, this device will receive a complete redesign and will arrive in 2023. Display analyst Ross Young reports on Twitter that this model will come with a 5.7-inch display. According to him, the next model will also receive a different model name. That would be the iPhone SE+ 5G. As of now, no other source has reported this model name.
Apple has used the Plus name more often in the past, for example the iPhone 8 Plus. At the time, the name Plus was used for smartphones with a relatively large screen. However, the new model will not have a bigger screen.
In this regard, it makes more sense that the larger model, which is expected in 2023, is marketed as the iPhone SE Plus 5G – so that the two models can also be transported side by side without any problems. The + symbol is also striking. Apple actually still uses the principle of writing the name out in full – unlike Samsung. Either way, more information about the new SE model will no doubt be revealed in the weeks and months to come.
