The singer Kanye West decided to innovate with the release of the new album. This Friday, the 18th, the musician announced that the songs for his upcoming album Donda 2which will only be available on the device Stem Player and not on streaming platforms. However, fans of the artist will have to shell out $200 to purchase the device.

The artist explained that the device allows listening, in addition to the songs, to four components of the song (vocals and chorus, percussion, bass and music). Controversial as ever, Kanye said the decision not to release his new album on mainstream platforms has to do with the lack of support companies give artists.

Donda 2” will only be available on my platform, Stem Player. No Apple, Amazon, Spotify or YouTube. Today, artists receive only 12% of the money the music industry generates. It’s time to free music from this oppressive system. It’s time to take control and create our own system“, he said.

Tech companies have made music practically free“, complained the artist on Instagram. “After 10 albums and 10 contracts, I turned down $100 million from Apple. Nobody can pay me to be disrespected. We set our own price for our own art“, he added.

The announcement took place through the singer’s official instagram. It currently exceeds 1 million likes and nearly 50,000 comments. However, most of them are negative. Many claim the decision to be contradictory, as industry freedom costs $200 on a device. “Donda 2”, coming to Stem Player on February 22nd.

Kayne West vs streaming

This isn’t the first time Kayne West has been involved in a feud with music streaming services. After releasing The Life of Pablo in 2016, initially only on the Tidal platform, West continued to alter the recording, with backing vocals, new lyrics and new mixes.

Last year, he released Donda in a series of performances, and when it finally made it to streaming, he claimed it was put on by the label without permission.
