Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit Order

So that nothing stands in the way of your next Lord of the Rings marathon, we have listed the films for you. This is the correct order:

#1 “The Hobbit”

Although the Hobbit trilogy only appeared after the Lord of the Rings films, it is still the prequel of Lord of the Rings. That’s why you should watch the Hobbit movies first in the following order:

  • “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey” (2012)
  • “The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug” (2013)
  • “The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies” (2014)

The movies are about a hobbit named Bilbo Baggins. Bilbo’s peers love life in the quiet idyll without excitement and surprises. One day, however, Bilbo is persuaded by a dwarf people and a magician to give up his life and devote himself to adventure. Along the way, he lives up to his destiny as a master thief and experiences much that builds on the Lord of the Rings trilogy.

#2 “Lord of the Rings”

This trilogy revisits the adventures and troubles of the world Bilbo and his friends live in. But this time Bilbo is not the protagonist, but his nephew and foster son Frodo Baggins. He also embarks on adventures, but he does so at a very dangerous time: Old powers and power relations threaten the world and the balance. Frodo and his friends are thus put to a hard test.

You can stream the films in the following order:

  • “The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring” (2001)
  • “The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers” (2002)
  • “The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King” (2003)
