If you feel tired when you wake up, it could be because you made decisions the night before Cell phone apps have used. According to a study, you should avoid five applications in particular.
You should avoid these mobile phone apps
In general, experts recommend that you do not use your smartphone before going to bed. Research by Sleep Junkie shows that certain cell phone apps can keep you awake. Due to their use, users need longer to fall asleep inside.
The study shows the percentage of sleep spent in the REM phase. We can also see how long it took test subjects to fall asleep after using the mobile phone apps before going to bed:
Mobile app | Percentage in the REM phase | Sleep time |
TikTok | 14 percent | 1 hour 7 minutes |
15.5 percent | 58 minutes | |
Snapchat | 16 percent | 56 minutes |
18 percent | 50 minutes | |
19.5 percent | 45 minutes |
How was the study conducted?
2,012 Americans were interviewed for the investigation. They have been asked to wear a smartwatch that will monitor their time asleep and the time in the REM phase of the sleep cycle. They should then provide feedback on how tired they will feel the next morning.
78 percent of them said they did some form of “Revenge Sleep Procrastination”, a kind of “revenge sleep delay”. This means that they use their cell phone until they fall asleep. Sleep expert Dorothy Chambers explains that this is used to do unimportant things that we didn’t have time to do during the day. That reflects a bad work-life balance.
Why are the apps bad for sleep?
The experts assume that the blue light of the cell phone screen increases alertness and the above-average time to fall asleep.
“However, we believe that social media apps like TikTok are particularly bad because they promote the release of adrenaline and dopamine and make us feel energized and ‘happy’. This may be why many of us choose them as a ‘revenge sleep delay’ tool, even though we know they do not help us relax before bed. “
