The launch of the Nothing phone was teased by founder Carl Pei in a series of tweets. Pei posted cryptic tweets that received responses from official Android and Snapdragon Twitter accounts. Nothing started its journey last year with truly wireless stereo headphones (TWS). However, in October, Pei announced Nothing’s partnership with Qualcomm to start using its Snapdragon platform for future devices. The rumor suggested that the Nothing phone could come true in the next few days.

Pei on Wednesday posted a series of cryptic tweets, with the first announcing your return on Android. Another tweet followed in which the entrepreneur praised Android 12 and mentioned Senior Vice President of Android at Google Hiroshi Lockheimer.

In another tweet, Pei shared a response from one of his followers in which an outline of the Nothing phone concept appeared.

Just hours after Pei posted his mystery tweets, the official Android and Snapdragon accounts joined in the teasers, responding to his original tweet in the series.

The tweet posted by the Android account reads: “We have a lot to talk about Carl [sic].” Likewise, the Snapdragon account shared an image depicting the partnership between Nothing, Android and Qualcomm.

All of this has enough references to suggest that Pei is hinting at the launch of the much-anticipated Nothing phone.

While details about the smartphone have yet to be confirmed by the London-based company, a report from 91Mobiles last year knocked down that the handset could launch in early 2022. The company also claimed to have a power bank in the works that would launch before the phone and could be called Nothing Power (1).

Pei, 32, left OnePlus in 2020 to start work on Nothing as his new venture. The company started its journey with the Nothing Ear 1 as its first device. The headphones launched with a transparent construction and included features such as active noise cancellation, multi-platform support and wireless charging to appeal to consumers.

In two months since going on sale in August, the Nothing Ear 1 headphones have surpassed shipments of 100,000 units.

In addition to selling the headphones, Nothing has partnered with entities such as Qualcomm and bought smartphone maker Essential. These moves will likely help move beyond audio devices and finally break into the smartphone market. The company also has resources, including former Samsung executive Manu Sharma, who would contribute to developing strategies for selling phones in competitive markets, including India.
