Operation “Locker”: More than 300 victims of fraud in Portugal

Operation “Locker”, carried out by the Judiciary Police, through the National Unit to Combat Cybercrime and Technological Criminality (UNC3T) carried out two arrest warrants for a couple aged 22 and 20, foreigners, alleged perpetrators of various crimes of escrow card or payment card, device or payment data abuse, counterfeiting of cards or other payment devices, illegitimate access and money laundering.

Operation Locker: Losses amounting to more than €40,000...

According to the information provided by the Judiciary Police itself, the investigation, called the locker operation, found that the perpetrators of the crimes would have entered Portugal at the end of January 2022, having started at that time a previously defined plan based on online purchases using to data from cards and third-party payment methods, causing damages amounting to more than €40,000 and causing more than 300 victims.

The ordered products, mostly computer equipment, were mostly sent to “lockers” (a service widely used by e-commerce, such as lockers), used by the perpetrators of crimes to collect fraudulently made purchases.

During the police action of Operation Locker, and in the possession of the detainees, more than a hundred articles related to criminal activity were seized. The investigation had the important collaboration of UNICRE, SIBS and EL Corte Inglês.

The detainees will be presented to the competent judicial authority for the application of the coercive measures considered appropriate.
