The PlayStation 5 has been on the market since the end of 2020. Even then, the fans quickly noticed a disadvantage compared to the competing console from Microsoft. In contrast to the new Xbox, the Sony system largely dispensed with backwards compatibility as usual. But at least: New pictures suggest that you will soon have some PS3 games on PS5 can use.

PS3 games spotted on the PS5

You may have already noticed that some PS3 titles have appeared on the PlayStation Store. Each game has its own price, so they are not part of the PlayStation Now subscription. I get an error message when trying to buy one. Sometimes the following PS3 games can be found on the PS5:

  • Prince of Persia: Two Thrones HD (2007)
  • “Kill Zone 2” (2009)
  • Bejeweled 3 (2010)
  • Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands (2010)
  • “Kill Zone 3” (2011)
  • Resistance 3 (2011)
  • Dead or Alive 5 (2012)

So far it is apparently not possible to buy the games. According to Caschy’s blog, the games do not forward to PlayStation Now as usual, as would be the case with PS4 titles on the PS5 or PS3 games on the PS4.

Backward compatibility or bug?

Sony Interactive Entertainment has not yet commented on the find. It is therefore unclear whether the discovered PS3 games on the PS5 actually tease a desired backward compatibility. It is possible that the team behind the PlayStation Store simply made a mistake that led to the titles appearing. First of all, it is necessary to wait and see whether the company will announce more details about the possible project.
