In the meantime, pretty much all of the larger automotive groups have embraced the turnaround in traffic. This means that not only Tesla and Volkswagen, but also Fiat, Renault, Hyundai and many others are increasingly relying on electromobility. Popular electric cars they all build, but only a few make it into the top ranks of Stromer. In January it is already becoming apparent which manufacturers could have the upper hand in 2022.

The trend in the industry has been moving towards electric cars for years. The reason for this is sometimes the growing climate policy in Europe, but above all in Germany. Those who became active early enough can already benefit from this development. The Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA) recorded a total of 184,112 new registrations in January, including 20,892 electric cars – which corresponds to around 11.3 percent.

The average CO2-Emissions from newly registered vehicles fell by 1.7 percent compared to the same month last year, thus continuing a trend that has been apparent for some time. Popular e-cars should also make their contribution. After all, they are the ones who, in addition to state bonuses, also make the traffic turnaround more attractive for end customers. In terms of brands, VW (2,755), Hyundai (2,048) and Opel (1,752) dominate the German market after new registrations.

However, the Handelsblatt editorial team shows which specific models recorded the most new registrations in January 2022.

Natural gas vehicles, on the other hand, are showing a decline. Their registrations decreased by around 28 percent compared to the previous year and account for a share of 0.1 percent. It remains to be seen how popular EVs will steer the industry through 2022.
