Altice Labs, “headquarters” of Altice Portugal, will participate in the creation of a quantum communication network in Portugal.

The application had been submitted in March by a consortium comprising several Portuguese organizations and has now received the green light from the European Commission, with implementation expected by 2026. What is expected of this network?

Quantum network will allow more secure communications...

The 1st segment of the European quantum communication network in Portugal, called PTQCI, was awarded (on July 15) by the European Commission to a consortium that counts with the collaboration of Altice Labs.

The PTQCI comes within the scope of the first call for the European Digital Program and lays the foundations of the national component for what will become the European Quantum Communication Infrastructure (EuroQCI), strategic for national and European Security.

The objective is to implement the first ultra-secure quantum communication infrastructure at the national level, through terrestrial connections, but it also intends to prepare the spatial connection, using technologies such as Quantum Cryptographic Key Distribution (QKD).

Portugal: Altice Labs will help create a quantum communication network

Altice Labs is a key partner in the development of PTQCI, in the area of Software Defined Networks (SDN). You will be responsible for defining, implementing and testing a robust, resilient and flexible network solution.

Since quantum communication is one of Altice Portugal's areas of focus, this participation in the consortium is also an opportunity for Altice Labs to contribute to the development of products and services in this field, leveraging its experience in the area of telecommunications networks.

Banking/Financial, Health/Pharmaceuticals, State and Utilities providers are the potential sectors of use for this evolved encryption service.
