Home - Depeche Mode

Depeche Mode is an English electronic music band formed in 1980 in Basildon, Essex, England. The band was initially formed by David Gahan (vocals), Martin L. Gore (keyboards, guitars, vocals and songwriter from 1981), Andrew Fletcher (keyboards, bassist) and Vince Clarke (keyboards and songwriters until 1981). Vince Clarke left the band after the release of their debut album in 1981, having formed the duos Yazoo and Erasure. He was replaced by Alan Wilder, a member from 1982 to 1995. After Wilder's departure, Depeche Mode continued their career as a trio.

Today they are considered a huge influence for many musicians and current pop and rock bands such as Pet Shop Boys, Nine Inch Nails, Smashing Pumpkins (re-recorded "Never Let Me Down Again"), Rammstein (re-recorded "Stripped"), Lacuna Coil (re-recorded "Enjoy The Silence"), HIM (re-recorded "Enjoy The Silence"), Placebo (re-recorded "I Feel You"), Deftones (re-recorded "Sweetest Perfection" and "To Have And To Hold"), Linkin Park, Coldplay, The Killers and Marilyn Manson (re-recorded "Personal Jesus"). In addition to being quite notorious for its large number of illustrious fans, such as Manson and Trent Reznor (NIN), Johnny Cash (re-recorded "Personal Jesus"), Robert Smith and Sonata Arctica (re-recorded "World In My Eyes"), Tori Amos (re-recorded "Enjoy The Silence" and "Personal Jesus"), Scott Weiland, Amy Lee, Shakira, Lady Gaga, The Ting Tings, In Flames (re-recorded "Everything Counts").

Depeche Mode have had 50 songs in the UK Singles Chart and seventeen UK top 10 albums; have sold over 100 million recordings around the world. Q included the band in the list of "50 Bands That Changed the World!". Depeche Mode also ranked 98th on VH1's list of the "100 Greatest Artists of All Time". In December 2016, Billboard named Depeche Mode the 10th most famous dance club artist of all time. They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2020.

On May 26, 2022, the band announced the death of Andy Fletcher. The cause of death was not disclosed.
