Hung Up - Madonna

Madonna Louise Veronica Ciccone (August 16, 1958) is an American singer, songwriter, record producer, actress, writer, dancer and businesswoman. She is considered one of the most impactful figures in popular culture and is often referred to as the "Queen of Pop". Madonna is known for her continuous reinvention and versatility in the music production, composition and visual presentation of her work. She pushed the boundaries of artistic expression in commercial music, remaining completely in command of all aspects of her career. Her works, which incorporate social, political, sexual and religious themes, have generated critical and public acclaim and controversy. Madonna is often cited as an influence for other artists in the design and production of their art.

Born and raised in Michigan, Madonna moved to New York City in 1978 to pursue a career in contemporary dance. After participating in two musical groups, Breakfast Club and Emmy, she signed with the Sire label in 1982 and the following year released her eponymous debut album. His popularity continued to grow with the release of a string of hit records, including two of the best-selling albums of all time, Like a Virgin (1984) and True Blue (1986), as well as the Grammy Award-winning Ray of Light (1998) and Confessions on a Dance Floor (2005). Many of his songs have reached number one on the music charts in several countries around the world, including "Like a Virgin", "Material Girl", "Papa Don't Preach", "La Isla Bonita", "Like a Prayer" , "Vogue", "Take a Bow", "Frozen", "Music", "Hung Up" and "4 Minutes".

Madonna's artistic versatility was further enhanced by her performance in films such as Desperately Seeking Susan (1985), Dick Tracy (1990), A League of Their Own (1992) and Evita (1996). Despite her winning a Golden Globe for Evita, many of her other films have received negative reviews. As a businesswoman, Madonna founded an entertainment company called Maverick in 1992 and launched fashion brands as well as children's books, health clubs and film production. She contributes to various charities, having founded the Ray of Light Foundation in 1998 and Raising Malawi in 2006.

Having sold over 300 million musical works worldwide, Madonna is the most successful female artist of all time according to the Book of Records. The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) recognized her as the third most certified singer in the United States. Madonna is the most successful soloist in the history of the Billboard Hot 100 chart and holds the record for the most number of top songs by a female artist in Australia, Canada, Spain, Italy and the United Kingdom. With a gross of over $1.5 billion from her concert tickets, she remains the highest-grossing touring solo artist of all time. Other recognitions earned include multiple entries into the Book of Records, induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, as well as receiving the title of "Artist of the 1980s". Music magazine Rolling Stone listed her among the 100 greatest artists of all time; channel VH1 placed her at number one of the 100 Greatest Women in Music, while Billboard magazine named her the greatest female artist in music video history.
