After becoming the most watched movie in Netflix history, Red Alert should win two more films as a sequel. Portal sources deadline say that the idea for the next titles is to bring back the stars of the first one: Dwayne Johnson, Gal Gadot and Ryan Reynolds, as well as the director and screenwriter Rawson Marshall Thurber who was already working on the script. Questioned by deadline on the matter, the Netflix did not want to comment.

Also according to the website, the project for the sequels would be at an early stage and the beginning of production could start in year 2023, depending on the availability of the participants’ agenda.

The new films would serve to expand the universe created in the first Red alert, consolidating the existing characters and bringing new ones to the plot. THE deadline states that the possible trio of films from the Netflix’s newest hit could follow in the footsteps of another famous heist movie franchise: Eleven men and a secret.

Sequence on the agenda

This is not the first time that a franchise of Red alert comes into discussion. In November 2021, at the The Hollywood Reporter, himself Thurber came to answer about it.

“If we were going to do a sequel, the only thing responsible would be doing two and three in a row. It’s such a huge production and if you can put it together once, it’s better for everyone. Including my mental health.”, commented.

super budget

Red alert is also the owner of the most expensive movie title in the history of Netflix, something in the house of $200 million, more than 1 billion reais. The film was obtained by the streaming giant in a bid in 2018. At the time, the company had the second best bid in the purchase auction, but after the Universal, owner of the biggest offer, retreat, probably due to the high budget, the Netflix closed with production.

For Rawson Marshall Thurber it doesn’t matter if the film is more or less expensive, the dedication is the same. To the The Hollywood Reporter, Thurber stated that “every time someone invests money in art, they expect success”. Working on a sequel, then, shouldn’t be a problem for the director.
