This might seem obvious, but until now, blocking on Reddit was more like a “mute” feature, as it only worked one way. This made the feature particularly ineffective for people dealing with harassment or other forms of abuse, as blocking did not stop the person from interacting with your posts.
Now, when someone who has been blocked finds that user’s posts or comments, the content will appear as if it has been deleted. Profiles will also be inaccessible after a user is blocked. (an exception is moderators, who may of users who blocked them if they appear on the subreddit they moderate.)
On the other hand, Reddit is changing the way content from blocked users appears to people who initiated the block in order to better protect against harassment. Now, those who blocked someone else will still be able to see their posts, although the content appears collapsed by default. Reddit says it’s keeping these posts accessible so users can still utilize the site’s reporting features and track any potential harassment.
