President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) signed this Wednesday (2/23), at an event at Palácio do Planalto, the decree that creates the new identity card that will be implemented in the country until 2023, the so-called Unique ID. This new document will be the unification of the RG and CPF (Cadastro de Pessoas Físicas) of citizens. The new identification standard must be adopted throughout the national territory by March 6, 2023.
According to the General Secretariat of the Presidency of the Republic, in addition to simplifying the life of the citizen, the measure aims to curb fraud, since currently each state is responsible for issuing the registration of an individual. The goal is for it to stop being printed in physical form within 10 years.
The issuance of the Single RG will be free of charge and will remain under the responsibility of the Public Security secretariats of each state. After receiving the citizen’s request, the identification will be validated through the federal government’s platform, Gov.br. When they receive the document in paper or polycarbonate (plastic), people will also be able to access it through the Gov.br application. The new document also has the possibility of electronic validation of its authenticity by QR Code, including offline.
Changes
With the new documentation, the numbering will be unique and the authenticity can be checked by QR code, even offline. That is, only the CPF will be considered. The measure also provides that the new identity card can be considered a travel document, as it will enter the international standard. The document will have a MRZ (Machine Readable Zone) code, the same as that found on passports, and can be read by equipment.
