A week after postponing and ghosting the “Play Time is Over” event, the Samsung finally made official the Exynos 2200, your new System-on-a-Chip for smartphones. Back to the segment high end mobile, the new SoC from South Korea will be the first to support the technology ray tracing in cell phones, thanks to Xclipse 920 GPU, produced in partnership with OMG.

Exynos 2200 wants to surpass Snapdragon

Manufactured in the 4 nm process, the Samsung hopes to rival the SoC top of the line Qualcomm, The Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. For this, the South Korean is using a eight core cpu in New Exynos who has a Arm Cortex-X2 as the main core, three Cortex A710 Intermediate “big-cores” (balance between performance and efficiency) and four efficiency cores Cortex-A510. THE Samsung did not disclose the frequencies at which these cores operate. Surprise? None seen the recent issues that have been leaked by leaker Ice Universe. THE Exynos 2200 supports 4K HDR, 4K 120 fps and 8K 30 fps recording, while the rival Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 achieves 8K HDR footage.

GPU is the star of the show

The announcement of the new Exynos was not only awaited by fans of smartphones, but also for gamers. THE Exynos 2200 will be the first SoC mobile with ray tracing technology. All thanks to your Xclipse 920 GPU made in partnership with the OMG. The American manufacturer, famous for processors and video cards for desktops, produced the graphics processing part of the chip using the RDNA 2 microarchitecture. This is the same microarchitecture used in the most recent AMD GPUs and was released in November 2020. Even though the Exynos 2200 lose to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 in some tests, its gaming performance tends to be better.

This is likely to be the advantage of Samsung regarding the Qualcomm. Even if she has to abandon plans for a GPU mobile operating at 1.9 GHz. Samsung was to leave the Xclipse 920 working 1.49 GHz without overheating, but the chip could not control the temperature above 1.29 GHz. She did not inform the official frequency of the GPU.

“Wait for the benchmark”.
