Anyone who has an Amazon Echo speaker should now be careful. Because there is a special one Alexa voice command, which actually never appears in the conventional overviews of such codes. The device can be put into the so-called “super mode”. You just have to say the following words.

Try it now: the Alexa voice command for “Super mode”

In Germany, Amazon’s Echo, and with it its digital assistant, came onto the market for the first time in 2016. Since then, the number of Alexa voice commands available has increased significantly. Including those that have a special effect. Like the “Alexa Super Mode Code”.

To activate the super mode is enough the following sequence of words as an Alexa voice command:

  • Alexa, up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, B, A, start

Once you have spoken the Alexa voice command, you can look forward to a funny reaction from the digital assistant. Your answer is also very extensive:

“Super Alexa mode is activated! Hihi! Added ten extra lives. Speed level 3 unlocked. All power ups available. Malfunction. Power-ups have no power. Cancellation…”

The only drawback: The Alexa super mode code does not initiate any actual action. At least there should be a few laughs.

This is what Alexa’s “super mode code” means

The Alexa voice command for the “Super Mode” is a special cheat code that should be well known, especially among video game fans, because it is actually the “Konami command”. This can often be found as an Easter egg and can also be used for other services besides Alexa.

In console or computer games, entering the key combination “up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, B, A, start” unlocks a hidden advantage. For example, you receive money faster than in the normal course of the game. In the case of “super mode”, the cheat code is simply passed on using an Alexa voice command instead of using buttons.

The “Konami command” has its origin in the first title in the series “Gradius” (1985), when it was ported to the NES (Nintendo Entertainment System) by the developer Kazuhisa Hashimoto. To test the game, he invented the command because the processes were too slow for him. And that’s actually why the cheat code shouldn’t be included in the end product. Ultimately, however, it stayed as short-term removal prior to mass production could have led to errors.

Games and services you can also hack using Konami code:

  • Flip (iPhone, iPod Touch): unlocks hidden level with 98 more puzzles
  • Netflix: on some devices, the app can be reset using a variant of the code
  • Google Hangouts: Typing in a conversation changes the background
  • Palm webOS device: in the form of “upupdowndownleftrightleftrightbastart” it enables the developer mode
  • Twitch Creators Dashboard: unlocks additional options
  • Jurassic World Evolution game website: Easteregg is triggered

Even more fun: Amazon’s Alexa also knows these Easter eggs

Tired of entertaining Alexa voice commands? Then try the following codes. They are also regarded as so-called Easter Egss, which provoke funny reactions from the language assistant:

  • Alexa, test, 1, 2, 3.
  • Alexa, tell me a joke.
  • Alexa, what’s the magic word?
  • Alexa, what do you want to be when you grow up?
  • Alexa are you a vampire?
  • Alexa, do you like ice cream?
  • Alexa, yodel!
  • Alexa, party time!
  • Alexa, do the dishes!
  • Alexa, give me animal names.
  • Alexa, can you smell that?
  • Alexa, bark like a dog?
  • Alexa, what do you think of Siri?

What exactly is Amazon’s Alexa?

Alexa is the company’s cloud-based voice service. This is now available on millions of Amazon’s own devices, as well as on Alexa-enabled devices from third-party providers. Above all, it should enable intuitive control by operating via Alexa voice command.

At the same time, however, it is also possible to design and further develop Alexa as a user yourself. Various tools, APIs and other aids are available on Amazon’s developer site for this purpose. So you can integrate Alexa into a device that you want to control or connect Alexa to devices.

What can Alexa really do?

In addition to fun functions, Amazon’s Alexa has an extensive range of standard functions. These are primarily intended for everyday use and can be queried entirely by voice command. This includes information services, but also tools for planning and shopping.

Alexa can for example

  • Play music, podcasts, audio books & Co. (Amazon Music, Spotify, Radio, Kindle, Audible.
  • Output traffic and weather information.
  • Place orders on Amazon (“Alexa Shopping” by voice command).
  • Create reminders and appointments.
  • Play messages.
  • Giving answers to questions of knowledge.

In addition, the capabilities of the voice service can be expanded with Alexa skills. Through increasing use, Alexa also learns habits and language usage from users and adapts to them. The software is updated automatically via the existing internet connection.

Can Amazon’s Alexa listen in?

The language assistant is not entirely without criticism. Because while it enables simple voice control and conveniently executes commands, many also fear that Alexa might secretly overhear. And it is not unjustified, because Amazon is not free from scandals in this regard.

In general, you always activate the corresponding devices when you say the signal word “Alexa”. In order to be able to react, Echo and Co. listen beforehand and wait for their cue, as Home & Smart reports. This is done decentrally on the loudspeaker. This means that the data is only processed in the Amazon cloud when “Alexa” has been recorded and only then is it sent to Amazon’s server.

tip: If you still want to delete something recently said or your history of Alexa voice commands occasionally, use the following instructions:

  • “Alexa, delete what I just said.”
  • “Alexa, delete everything I’ve ever said.”

As fun and practical as they are, sometimes using the voice service can go wrong. In at least one case, an Alexa voice command resulted in a dangerous prompt. For a little girl, this could have resulted in a fatal electrocution.
