Tata Sky Binge+ users have started gaining access to Netflix on their Android hybrid setup boxes, according to a report. The new experience is available via an over-the-air (OTA) software update. In 2018, Tata Sky partnered with Netflix to offer over-the-top (OTT) platform TV shows, movies and documentaries to its subscribers. The direct-to-home (DTH) operator, however, did not provide access to Netflix through its Binge+ service at the time of its launch in early 2020.

Website focused on DTH DreamDTH reports that Tata Sky has released a new OTA update for the Tata Sky Binge+ that brings access to Netflix. The system update is said to be gradually rolling out to all active Binge+ decoders.

After installing the update, the Netflix app is available on the home screen by default. Users just need to log in with their credentials on the OTT platform to start streaming their content on the Binge+ decoder, said DreamDTH.

Tata Sky’s rival Airtel Digital TV has been providing Netflix to its Xstream set-top box users since its inception. However, Tata Sky did not provide access to Netflix on its Binge+ set-top box at its launch in January 2020. The Android TV model nevertheless offered access to other OTT platforms including Disney+ Hotstar, Eros Now and SonyLIV, among others.

Gadgets 360 has reached out to Tata Sky for confirmation about the launch of Netflix across India. This article will be updated when the company responds.

Last week, Tata Sky began offering Netflix combo packages to its DTH subscribers. Netflix subscription combo packages start at Rs. 379 per month.

Tata Sky last year launched the Tata Sky Binge app for mobile devices that aimed to offer OTT content to DTH subscribers. The app included content from 10 different platforms, including Disney+ Hotstar, Eros Now, Voot Select, and SonyLIV, among others. It debuted with a monthly plan of Rs. 149 where users can access OTT content on up to three mobile devices. R$ Plan 299 was also introduced for accessing the Binge service on mobile devices and TVs.
