The latest trailer for ‘Belle’ introduces us to the film’s stunning Technicolor virtual world

As Mamoru Hosoda’s latest film opens in US theaters this Friday, Studio Chizu and the film’s distributor have shared a new trailer of . The three-minute-plus clip shows the film’s opening scene in full, introducing us to U, from Bela virtual world. The trailer is primarily a showcase of Studio Chizu’s virtuoso animation work, but we also hear an equally great English cover from and learn more about the configuration.

The metaverse has been a hot topic recently thanks in large part to the work Meta has done to promote the concept as the next big evolution of the internet, but Lovely Director Mamoru Hosoda has long been thinking about what virtual worlds can mean for our interpersonal relationships. In 2009, he directed summer wars. This film imagines a world where everything is connected through a separate digital realm. More than a decade ago, the idea seemed strange. Now it looks prescient.
