among the richest people in the world are mainly CEOs of huge companies, but also heirs. Even in 2022 there is not a single woman in the top ten, all ten places are mostly occupied by American men.

Overview of the ten richest people in the world

As this table shows, the top ten richest people in the world come exclusively from the western world. Things looked different in 2020 when Mukesh Ambani from India finished tenth. In addition, the order of each changes regularly. Some billionaires “suffered” big losses, especially as a result of the pandemic. In November 2021, for example, Elon Musk made a loss of over 50 billion US dollars within two days. (via Tag24)

Where do the richest people in the world get their money from?

Elon Musk is known worldwide as the CEO of Tesla and the aerospace company SpaceX. However, Tesla had five founders, only two of whom became wealthy. And Jeff Bezos, who has often taken first place, is also known internationally as the former CEO of Amazon. As CEO of Facebook, now Meta, Mark Zuckerberg is also one of the richest men in the world.

Bill Gates is a familiar name to most people as he is a co-founder of Microsoft. Steve Ballmer also got his fortune from Microsoft, where he was CEO from 2000 to 2014.

Bernard Arnault, on the other hand, is something of an anomaly among the richest people in the world, as he is currently the only European and also did not earn his billions in the tech industry. Arnault owns almost 47 percent of the shares in LVMH (Moët Hennessy – Louis Vuitton) and 70 percent of the Christian Dior company through his own Holding Group Arnault. Warren Buffett also made his fortune through stocks. He is the CEO of Berkshire Hathaway.

Larry Page and Sergey Brin are computer scientists who were CEO and President of Google’s parent company Alphabet Inc. until 2019. They developed the search engine together in the 1990s.

women and non-Americans

After all, when you look at the top 20 richest people in the world, two female faces appear. Ranked 13th is Francoise Bettencourt Meyers, who and her family are currently worth $82.7 billion. Her grandfather Eugène Schueller founded the cosmetics company L’Oréal.
Alice Walton is currently in 19th place with $63.6 billion. Her father, Sam Walton, was the founder of the American supermarket chain Walmart.

Overall, seven of the twenty richest people in the world are currently not from the United States. Two men in the top 20 are from India (coal producer and port operator), one man is from China (Nongfu Spring, the largest beverage company in China, pharmaceutical company), one man (LVHM) and one woman (L’Oréal) are from France. There is also a man in the top 20 from Spain (Zara) and Mexico (Telekom).

Now that you know the richest people in the world, are you wondering how rich you could get? That depends on a very specific factor. However, if you’re more curious about what these people do with their money, we picked up on Jeff Bezos.
